Supakitch and Koralie

I stumbled upon this amazing video on artists Supakitch and Koralie in October on The Fox Is Black and rediscovered it last week. Since then, I've played it over and over and over. It's simply brilliant!

This is a clear example of passionately creative people doing exactly what they love. This includes the creator of the film- Elroy -and the music by DLid.

Enjoy!
De deur uit met Uit de Deur

With the last entry for Uit de Deur posted a little less than four months ago, it is apparent that the blog's original format, in all its rigidity, can no longer be sustained. The fact that the main objective of Uit de Deur was to "capture and present unique individuals with a personal sense of style" is, in many ways, contrary to the blog's namesake. To step out the door means to explore the world in all its richness. In reality, the creative mind does not and cannot focus solely on a single discipline without consulting the great influence of art, music, films, print and people.

The only constant is change.

On a personal note, I have contemplated this shift in perspective for quite some time. The realization that my interests as an individual and curator of Uit de Deur surpass my fascination with the intimacy of personal style, compels me to include a wealth of sources of inspiration. Life is full of beauty and illumination that must be shared with the world.
As a result, change is inevitable.

De deur uit met Uit de Deur.

Over the next few weeks, the blog will shift its focus to explore infinitely new sources of inspiration to be shared with the world. Though the content may vary, the overall format remains unchanged.

With hope, Uit de Deur will do exactly that - to step out the door and explore the world in all its richness.
Scott Schumann, The Sartorialist

There is no denying that a vast majority of style bloggers (myself included), stylists, photographers, designers, artists, etc. all over the world draw inspiration from the masterwork of Scott Schumann- photographer and curator of The Sartorialist. It was only a matter of time until the man behind the camera and his craft would be documented and presented for the world to see.

Directed by Tyler Manson for the Intel® Visual Life campaign, this short film offers us a glimpse in a day in the life of Scott Schumann as he explores the streets of New York City, casually discussing what inspires him and how his craft fits into the greater scheme of things as the world rapidly evolves into infinite interconnectedness.

What moves me the most about Scott Schumann is his unfaltering commitment to what he does best, which ultimately leads to the continuous success of his blog, The Sartorialist and the ever-increasing popularity of street style as a global reference for both fashion and culture.

He is, without a doubt, an inspiration for Uit de Deur.
Be Linen

As Autumn quickly draws to a close, designers all around the world are zealously preparing to unveil their latest collections for Spring/Summer 2012. Not only are these seasons' silhouettes being fanatically deliberated upon as we speak,  the more important choice of materials are also painstakingly considered. Entwined in the stitches of a rich textile debate is the use of European linen. As the rise of globalization alarmingly translates into a "race-to-the-bottom" in terms of costs of production, linen, specifically European linen, is being snubbed more and more for an array of alternative, cost-efficient fabrics.

Enter Be Linen (Movie).

Commissioned by the European Linen & Hemp Community, this short documentary unravels the tedious production of European linen from flax to finished product- a complex process involving a number of countries throughout Western Europe. Unbeknownst to many, the majority of European flax is sowed and harvested within a greater area between Caen and Amsterdam, resulting in linen production of the finest quality.

Director Benoit Millot and crew pay a much-deserved tribute to the tireless craftsmanship of the noble men and women of the  European Linen Industry, emphasizing their unfaltering commitment to quality and a strict, almost fanatical attention to detail.

Ultimately, this film was created in the hopes that more informed decisions shall be made by designers and consumers alike, championing the use of sustainable, versatile, high-quality European Linen.
